WHAT WE DO

The objects of the Committee, as defined in our Constitution, are:

The promotion of high standards of church music in the Diocese, and in particular:

  • to arrange diocesan choir and music festivals, whether in the cathedral or elsewhere;
  • to arrange courses of instruction for church musicians (instrumentalists and directors of music);
  • to arrange training and other events relevant to church music;
  • to offer practical advice and help to individual churches, choirs, music groups, organists and worship committees;
  • to liaise with the Diocesan Liturgical Committee and the Diocesan Advisory Committee through its representatives on the Diocesan Consultative Council for Worship.

The Committee is concerned with all styles of church music and churchmanship. It encourages selection of the most appropriate music and the most effective presentation for any particular occasion and location.
